HISTORIC PRESERVATION
In communities across the state, country and world, chapter members participate in
  • Restoring and maintaining historic sites
  • Preserving historical records and artifacts
  • Locating, restoring and marking Revolutionary War patriot grave sites

The Historic Preservation Committee was established during the Calvin Administration to serve four main functions:
(1) The Preservation Medal, honoring outstanding individuals for distinguished lifelong work in the field of historic preservation.
(2) The Historic Preservation Project Contest recognizes outstanding historic preservation efforts by chapters or states.
(3) The creation of a Historic Sites and Properties Database to be used to promote tourism.
(4) The administering of the Historic Preservation Recognition Award, which honors individuals  or groups who have done outstanding historic preservation work.

Historic Preservation is emphasized in three key areas by the chapters of the WSSDAR.
  • Documentation
  • Restoration
  • Preservation
Our chapters collectively give 40 to 50 programs per year in historic preservation. They award historic preservation contests and awards, and actively participate in the repairing and restoration work of historic properties.

The State of Washington has two historic properties on the NSDAR Historic Sites and Properties database.
  • The Rainier Chapter House, NSDAR, 1925
  • End of the Oregon Trail Marker

Please explore this database of historic homes and other sites across the country, which shows the dedication to historic preservation that the Daughters of the American Revolution have demonstrated since the organization’s founding in 1890.
