FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA!

WHAT IS THE DAR?
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s volunteer service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

THE DAR STORY
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today’s world. More than 930,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded close to 125 years ago. They became members to honor their heritage as well as make a difference in their communities across the country and the world.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890, with Mrs. Benjamin Harrison, first Lady of the United States at the time, serving as the first President General.  For many years, the Society conducted its meetings in the private homes of its members. In 1902, the Society purchased the site for Memorial Continental Hall. Construction began later that same year and concluded in 1910.  The magnificent Beaux-Arts building was designed by architect Edward Pearce Casey. In 1973, Memorial Continental Hall was designated a Registered National Historic Landmark.
