PictureHarriet Palmer Crabbe Washington State Regent, 1894-1897

The first State Regent of Washington was Mrs. Edwin George Crabbe (Harriet Palmer), who was appointed in 1894 by Mrs. Adlai E. Stevenson,  (Letitia Green) President General. That same year, the state's first NSDAR chapter, the Mary Ball Chapter, was organized. Mrs. Crabbe, then a resident of Tacoma, was the daughter of United States senator John M. Palmer of Illinois, and spent much of her time in Washington D.C.
