Hope for Heroes Equine Therapy Center
Hope for Heroes Horsemanship Center provides a Therapeutic Horsemanship Program to Veterans and Active-Duty Personnel free-of-charge who are suffering from PTSD, Suicidal Behavior, Depression and other wounds of war, while helping other horse centers around the world to offer similar programs.
Bob Woelk and Debbi Fisher are a husband-and-wife team who have been providing an equine therapy program to over one hundred veterans and active-duty personnel annually, for the last 14 years. They do not charge any fee to any participants, but rely upon donations from the community and grants, as well as an all-volunteer staff of about thirty. Their facility is in Yelm, WA, conveniently located by Joint Base Lewis McChord and Olympia, Lacey, and Tacoma. The only therapists they use are their ten horses, which are extremely effective in treating anxiety and PTSD, suicidal thoughts, military sexual trauma, and depression.

Their horses are the heart and soul of their organization. They are the only “therapists” that they have on their staff. Their natural horse behavior helps the participants to know when their anxiety is high and encourages them to re-learn how to self-manage their anxiety disorder. This is exactly the help that our PTSD veterans and active-duty participants need!
Their staff is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to helping their participants learn important horsemanship skills. They are all highly trained and experienced in working with horses and people. This helps the participants to be successful with their horse and have an enjoyable experience.
Their volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They help us with everything from cleaning stalls to leading horses. They are all passionate about our mission and are always willing to lend a hand.
Our veterans and active-duty personnel are the reason we do what we do. They have protected our way of life and now they are all facing challenges in their lives, but they are all determined to overcome them. We are honored to be able to help them on their journey.
